Department of the Palliative Medicine, Centre for Palliative Care of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) provides outpatient, inpatient and community based palliative care service. To avail the service patient can attend room number 511, outdoor building-1, from 8 AM to 2 PM everyday (except Govt. holidays) along with an OPD ticket and all medical records.

 

  • This care is only for the patient suffering from a life-threatening incurable illness or at the stage of end-of-life
  • The care tries to reduce the physical pain and symptoms of the patient
  • It’s a holistic approach, where not only the physical pain but also the mental, spiritual and social suffering of both patient and family members are taken care of.

Yes, if your doctor is a trained palliative doctor (i.e specialized in palliative medicine) or is a trained palliative care provider. Otherwise they can work in collaboration with a trained certified palliative doctor.

If the patient is registered at the Centre for palliative care only then the patient can get treatment from CPC as well as 24/7 Telephone Consultation Service of the Palliative Medicine Department.

Centre for palliative care regularly arranges both long-term and short-term training programs to support those who are interested to work as a palliative caregiver.

Yes, definitely! Please contact the Centre for palliative care to go through proper guidance and training.

The interested social workers or the volunteers from any locality initially need a short training to serve as palliative care volunteer. They can contact the Center for Palliative Care, BSMMU for further guidance.
